Megan from Cambian’s River View School in Durham has raised £702 for Young Minds, a mental health charity for children, young people, and their parents.
Megan was inspired to fundraise and support Young Minds as part of Cambian’s involvement with Care Home Open Week; a national event facilitated by ‘Championing Social Care’.
Between 27th June to 3rd July 2022, CareTech joined over 2,000 care homes across the country as part of Care Home Open Week to celebrate the achievements of the people living and working in the care sector.
Megan achieved this remarkable total of £702 by holding a raffle to auction off items donated by local businesses. These items included teddy bears, homemade candles, and sweets, she also came up with some inventive ideas on how to fundraise for her chosen charity. One of her many ways was to challenge guests to correctly guess how many sweets were in a jar, with the winner being awarded the jar as the prize. There was also a tombola and a raffle to guess the name of a teddy bear with the winner taking him home as their prize.
Megan was delighted with the outcome; “I was pleased with the number of people that turned up, happy at how the event went, and very happy about the amount raised for my charity!”
Young Minds were delighted with the amount raised: “Wow, thanks so much Megan and all involved!”
Megan also organized and held a bake sale with delicious cakes, treats, and snacks for the visitors that visited River View as part of Care Home Open Week.
Rebecca, a Team leader at River View together with one of Megan’s friends, supported her by selling the treats on the stall. Rebecca said “I am very proud of Megan and the way she organized and managed everything. Well done, Megan.”
