CareTech MENA hosts an award show for its Arts and Crafts competition, celebrating the artistic and creative talents of People of Determination from the UAE
A number of schools and centres in the UAE took part in CareTech MENA’s very first Arts & Crafts Competition in Dubai. The award ceremony and exhibition were hosted at the Mawaheb Art Studio and café in the Goshi Warehouse Village, Dubai, on Saturday October 1st.
From sculptures to paintings, collages to drawings, all based around the theme of culture, the artists were supported by their specialist teams to unleash their creative talents.
The competition judges included Jenny Hoof who works as a life skill coach at Mawaheb. Dr. Jennifer Camulli who is a certified educational therapist with 30 years of experience working with people of determination, as well members of the CareTech Team. The judges were impressed by the range and depth of talent on show, with so many students producing such inspiring artwork.
Haroon Sheikh, CEO of CareTech Group spoke warmly at the event, stating: “The talent of the artists is truly outstanding. This is the first of many events. CareTech is committed to promoting the voice of people of determination and Insha’Allah we will move to the next level and do more next year.”
Arts and Crafts therapy has a number of benefits, it provides relaxation and relief from stress and anxiety as well as building confidence, improving cognitive abilities and increasing social skills and interaction.
Over 70 guests attended, including students, families, teachers, local business representatives, artists and CareTech staff from both the UK and UAE.
Old Emirati House
The judges had an almost impossible task to choose winners from the entries received, however the overall champion piece “Old Emirati House” was a unanimous and popular decision.
With a detailed and personal piece of work, the artist portrayed the culture of the UAE and fond family memories as a child. The artist is supported by family as well as a caring and supportive team at The Awladouna Center for people of determination in Sharjah.
Speaking about his winning entry, the artist said “In its traditional shape, I adore our old Emirati house because to me, it represents the memories of the family gathered in one place. This house is the home of my grandparents and I was so happy to recreate it as a mini figure.”
