Extraordinary Days Every Day

With ROC Northwest, you’re not just working - you’re shaping futures because as a Residential Support Worker every moment you spend with our young people helps them to feel safe, valued and supported.

A simple "How was your day?" or a shared laugh playing a game, being someone to listen and offer encouragement on a tough day. All these small interactions build trust, encourage communication and help to shape lives. Some days will be challenging but every breakthrough, every smile and every step forward will remind you why you truly matter in vulnerable children’s lives.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be supporting young people with their daily routines like helping to ensure they get ready for school or college each morning, getting ready for meal times, checking on how their day went and planning activities in and around the home. Making sure care plans are up to date is essential and the children must feel their feedback and ideas are heard, this is their home.

  • Ensure our children receive the highest level of support and encouragement
  • 14 sleep-ins per month
  • Support senior staff with timely updates and feedback
  • Work as a team, we all support each other
  • Promote individuality NOT a "one size fits all" approach
  • Complete and update care plans regularly, updating with any additional requirements
  • Be part of a welcoming, homely environment by helping with light housekeeping
  • Build strong, meaningful relationships and provide emotional support to our young people
  • Plan and join fun activities like day trips & activities, holidays away, popcorn & movie nights or creative projects

New staff must be comfortable using an electronic care recording system on a daily basis to document, monitor, and update children and young people’s records accurately. Experience with Clearcare is an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be provided. However, all staff are expected to confidently use digital systems as part of their day-to-day role.

Who Are You

You need to be someone who genuinely cares and wants to make that difference. Consistency in a child’s life is essential and you will be part of that consistency. This is not a stopgap job. The children need to see you are here for them through the bigger picture. Be warm, patient, be a great listener and offer those words of encouragement our young people need to hear. Stay focused on achieving outcomes for our children and take pride in knowing you are helping to shape someone's life for the better.

A Little About This Home

Kirkwood is a two bedroomed dormer bungalow. Our house reflects that of a family ‘home from home’ environment, where the young people feel safe, relaxed and well cared for in a non-institutionalised setting. Kirkwood is a spacious home with good resources for young people and the garden area has been equipped with garden games and a trampoline for fun in the sun…and rain.

Kirkwood is geared up to care for 2 young people between the ages of 8 to 18, of either gender who require short-, medium- or long-term care. The registered manager and the staff team all have exceptional skills and abilities to help support each young person placed at Kirkwood with their individual needs catered for.

Kirkwood also have had good results in supporting children and young people for their potential return to home or move to long term foster placements. Currently rated as Outstanding.
